Sainsbury’s Pineham – Multi Temperature Warehouse

MBA were excited to be involved on this project and acted for the main contractor to manage and oversee the design and construction of the fit out elements of a new multi temperature distribution centre for the storage of chill, produce and ambient goods for Sainsbury’s.

Consisting of a primary distribution warehouse building with associated office complex complete with ancillary areas such as Resource Recovery Unit, Vehicle Maintenance Building and Technical Services Block [Energy Centre] the project was executed on a shell and fit out basis. MBA were involved with the fit out M&E design completion and integration of the fit out requirements with the base build element of the project.

There were ambient, produce and chill areas of the building built. The temperature controlled areas were chilled from a central refrigeration plant which had the benefit of an Ammonia Absorption Refrigeration Plant [AARP], driven by the exhaust gases from a gas fired CHP unit. The AARP provided liquid refrigerant to the central ammonia plant that formed the primary refrigeration plant.

Insulated structure systems were formed using Polyisocyanurate [PIR] panels, one of the first major projects in the UK to use this as a core material.
